Alicia Melchiott - Head part 1

Yo everybody, i'm back with some more progress after two successfull days with Mario who runs the Imperial Front blog, which have some updates on his Kurt Irving puppet!.

After successfully casting the head, it's time to add magnets. I started of by temporarily attach the magnets with stickytac to see if it works as planned, and it did. Then i attached them using modelling putty from games workshop (green stuff), it sticks most things in without a problem. I also smoothed it out around the eye magnets. Eyes are to be printed and attached using "magnet tape", the eye on this pic is just a experimental eye, and it sticks on!. On my earlier puppets i used stickytac to keep eyes on the puppet, but magnets are much les problematic and it works without any moments when you feel like trashing something!.

To fix the head to the neck i made a lump of epoxy around the neck wire that was sticking up above the latex neck. I made sure it did fit into the hole under the head. i then sculpted putty around it and pressed it into the hole so that i have a tight fit, but i removed it and pressed it in again so that the head sits tight but will be detachable for valkyria-mode headswap. Finaly i painted the bit in skin colour. A little tip for pressing the putty into the hole, coat it with water using a brush or your finger, it will stick less to the walls of the hole.

I started of by using white spray primer on the head for a smooth cover. Next step was to paint the skin in a neutral skin tone, no shading as that will be problematic when changing faces for animated expression. i did however use a brown shading wash in the mouth, since the mouth is what's to be animated so it works, i also washed shading on the ears. Lastly i did successfully attach the head, and it can be removed  without any problem, but sticks on nicely!.
